The San Isidro Labrador Parish and it's Patron Saint

The Talamban Parish, or the San Isidro Labrador Parish, is one of the old churches in Cebu. The church is located at the Poblacion Talamban (Talamban Proper) which is at the heart of the barangay.

As part of the Archdiocese of Cebu, it is entitled as a Vicariate of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart together with the other seven parishes in the province, namely: the Capitol Parish, Guadalupe Parish, Banawa Parish, Guba Parish, St. Therese Parish in Lahug, St. Joseph Parish in Mabolo, and Sta. Rosa Parish in Olango Island, Lapulapu City.

The church's patron saint, the titular, is ofcourse San Isidro Labrador. Also known as St. Isidore the Labourer. He was a Spanish tenant, farmer, and labourer. He is usually depicted carrying a shovel, sometimes with a cow. But being Filipinos, the carabao is being presented instead of the cow. He was canonized by Pope Gregory XV on March 12,1622.

And people might wonder why he became a saint. According to his life story, St. Isidore never fails to visit the church before going and after working from the fields for prayer. Simple. But that simple thing makes it significant.

St. Isidore's feast is celebrated on the 15th of May. His feast is sometimes called the "people's fiesta" or the "poor man's fiesta". This is because of the left and right fiesta invitations and most of mountain barangays are celebrating their fiesta. Ofcourse, the procession of the patron before the fiesta mass held at the parish is still greatly practiced.
